Pervious Concrete uses little to no sand in its production process. The absence of the fine aggregate creates an open-cell structure and thus a more sufficient storm water management system that allows rainwater to filter through to underlying soil.
There are both environmental and cost-cutting advantages to applying this material to a land development project. According to the United States Enviromental Protection Agency (EPA), nearly 90% of pollutants found on the surface of traditional parking lots leak into our rivers and streams via storm water runoff. Luckily the use of Pervious Concrete has improved these conditions by allowing oils and other hydrocarbon liquids to pass through the surface and enter back into the ground.
Without the need for retention ponds and other costly storm water management practices, pervious concrete can also be considered the most economical choice for contractors. Consequently the material also minimizes the potential for flash flooding and standing water.
